GOMACO Showcases New Paving Concepts at World of Concrete 2010

A three-track Commander III, with a standard safety barrier mold, was displayed at World of Concrete 2010.

Las Vegas, Nevada -- GOMACO Corporation used World of Concrete 2010 to showcase new paving concepts that included a new paving mold, new advancements to the independent IDBI transverse bar insertion system, stringless paving technology, G22 controller advancements, and more.

Perhaps the most exciting introduction from GOMACO was the new 5400 series paving mold designed with a structural integrity that is unmatched in the industry! It features a new “box” design, 54 inch (1372 mm) finishing length and a 0.5 inch (13 mm) paving skin. The new paving system has a series of accessories including center and sidebar insertion systems. It features a spreader plow, independent of the mold, or an optional auger to spread the concrete across the paving width. A newly designed strike-off is now mounted to the paver’s main frame, independent of the mold. The strike-off has a wedge-lock system for easy width changes and hydraulic height and crown adjustment. The new mold also features hydraulic Vertically Hinged Sideplates (VHS), self-contained to the inside of the mold, allowing minimum track clearance. The new 5400 series mold was displayed at World of Concrete 2010 on a two-track GHP-2800 paver at a 24 foot (7.3 m) paving width. The GHP-2800 featured GOMACO’s G22 dual-language controller in English and Russian.

GOMACO introduced the new IDBI attachment for the Commander III at World of Concrete 2009. This year, the company is reintroducing the attachment, which is now available on all new GOMACO pavers. The IDBI attachment is an independent unit providing dowel bar insertion behind a paver to form the transverse joint. No power or hydraulics is needed from the paver’s engine. A CAN cable connects the IDBI’s controls to the controller on the paver and allows the two systems to communicate. The new design features a new IDBI tray that is stronger, more compact and makes width changes easier. New adjustable-height bar extractors allow contractors to quickly and easily change the setup for different bar sizes for insertion requirements. Its new GOMACO G+ control system features the same graphical display as the G22 controller, with easy to learn and easy to understand controls. The IDBI information is presented in full color, commands are presented in full text, and it is able to operate in multiple languages, by customer’s choice. The IDBI attachment has outriggers to aid in attaching the unit to the paver and also for loading and unloading the unit for transporting. The outriggers can be hydraulically lowered and placed on the ground to support the full weight of the IDBI as it is attached to or detached from the paver. The IDBI attachment was featured on a Commander III four-track paver and set up to pave 12 feet (3.7 m) wide. The Commander III four-track’s G22 controller featured Spanish and English languages.

The GOMACO GT-3600 curb and gutter machine featured a stringless control system. GOMACO recently proved that stringless curb and gutter is here on a project in Missouri. The GT-3600, with stringless control, slipformed several tight radii islands on the parking lot project, with radii as tight as 18 inches (457 mm). The stringless system easily interfaces with GOMACO’s G22 controller. At World of Concrete, the GT-3600’s G22 controller featured Polish and English.

The GOMACO Commander III is the contractor’s choice around the world to slipform concrete safety barrier or bridge parapet. A three-track Commander III, with a standard safety barrier mold, was displayed. The barrier machine, and all of the GOMACO slipform machines at World of Concrete, featured GOMACO’s G22 digital control system with dual-language capabilities. The G22, GOMACO’s proprietary operating system, has a new, high-resolution display with deviation meters on the run screen. The new display allows the operator to fine tune the paver during setup for the paving operation. Then, during paving, three colors illustrate the machine’s performance, or operating range, on the display for easy monitoring. The Commander III three-track had German and English as the languages of choice on its G22 controller.

The C-450 bridge deck finisher, set at 32 feet (9.75 m) wide, and the GOMACO RTP-500 with RCC (roller-compacted concrete) screed rounded out the GOMACO display. The C-450 featured transitional framework and a three-circuit, heavy-duty carriage. The carriage has 60 inch (1524 mm) long double drums with an adjustable auger and external vibration to the dual drums to provide maximum finishing results on bridge decks, canals or flat surfaces. The GOMACO RCC screed, with telescoping capabilities, is the ultimate variable width concrete paver for the harsh, zero-slump, high-density RCC mix design. The screed, attached to the GOMACO RTP-500 rubber-tracked placer, provides a durable paver capable of handling RCC mix designs.
