9500 Trimmer Applications

A GOMACO 9500 feeds concrete onto the belt of a four-track Commander III slipforming barrier wall on a project in St. Louis (above, left).

Another 9500 trims grade for the mainline portion of the job. The trimmer is equipped with an 18 foot (5.5 m) wide trimmerhead (above, right).

Two total stations are used on the Interstate 64 project in St. Louis, Missouri. One controls the 9500 trimmer while the other one is used for grade accuracy checks.

This contractor used their 9500’s built-in sensor arm boom to reference steering off the existing slab. Elevation was controlled with a rolling grade ski running on the trimmed grade.

A 360-degree turn in the machine’s own length is possible because of the two-track design. A wide turning radius is not demanded like three-track machines. Maneuverability is necessary in most job-site conditions.

This 9500, equipped with the TSD/Topcon Millimeter GPS system, is trimming material on a project east of Little Rock, Arkansas.
This 9500, equipped with the high-performance mining trimmerhead, is trimming material to grade on this highway project in Fort Meyers, Florida. The steering sensor is utilizing the telescoping sensor arm, and the grade is referenced off the rolling ski.
A Russian contractor is trimming base with a 9500 trimmer on a new roadway project near Kazan, Russia.
This 9500, with the Leica stringless guidance system, is trimming the grade for a rest area near Springfield, Missouri. The GOMACO 9500, with job-proven versatility, provides multiple uses with high-production trimming and accurate concrete placing.
The 9500 can be equipped with the sidemounted, sectional trimmerhead designed for shoulder work. It is capable of trimming off either side of the machine. The 9500 travels on the existing roadway and the sidemounted trimmer eliminates the problems of restricted side clearances, obstacles along the shoulder, and lack of offset or available track path outside the shoulder. GOMACO's control system easily interfaces with new stringless technology. The technology allows GOMACO's slipform pavers, trimmers and placer/spreaders to be controlled by an automated 3-D machine-control system and not by stringline.

Ease in loading the trimmerhead or receiving hopper onto a trailer for transport or positioning either of these when mounting on the 9500 is achieved with the optional hydraulic pick-up arms at the front of the frame.
The 9500 trimmer is available with a high-performance mining trimmerhead. The mining trimmerhead's diameter has been increased and features a newly designed auger/tooth wrap. The tooth-tip rotational maximum speed has increased by 31 percent over the standard trimmerhead. The mining trimmerhead has carbide-tipped asphalt teeth for cement-treated base, soil stabilization and other touch trimming applications.
The single-drive, hydrostatic motor on the 9500 increases trimmerhead power by 24 percent with 23 percent more trimmerhead speed for high production. One drive instead of two provides less maintenance. Dual grade control is used for sensoring on both sides of the machine simultaneously. Extended sensor arms on the 9500 provide trimming accuracy through transitions. The telescoping arms allow sensoring on stringless set up to 40 ft. (12.19 m) apart. Trimming depth is variable and accuracy is a consistent 1/8 in. (3 mm) tolerance in 12 ft. (3.66 m). A sectionalized trimmer handles widths up to 18 ft. 8 in. (5.69 m) and narrow widths available for shoulder projects.
Grade sensoring with GOMACO's rolling grade ski is standard on the 9500. The versatile grade ski includes two rubber-tired casters which follow the existing grade or surface. The grade ski uses a standard sensor wand. A digital tracking sonar sensing system is available for the 9500 trimmer. This system is ideal for second pass trimming operations. Grade referencing is achieved as the sonar bounces a sound wave off an existing slab or grade. No stringline setup is needed, and that saves time, which means more profit for the contractor. A quick-hitch locks the dump truck to the 9500 placer and with the truck in neutral, the 9500 will easily push the truck while it is discharging the concrete into the receiving hopper. The receiving hopper, with a 1.6 cu. yd. (1.2 cu. m), is equipped with a split flighting hydraulic 12 in. (305 mm) diameter auger that carries concrete from both sides to the center and onto the transfer conveyor.
Two 9500s with 18.8 foot (5.7 m) wide trimmerheads trim the subgrade and grade on this highway project in Nebraska. The operator has a full view of the trimmerhead, which is directly in front of the operator’s platform.

Extended sensor arms are available for the 9500 and provide trimming accuracy through transitions. The telescoping arms allow sensoring off stringlines set up to 40 ft. (1.19 m) apart.
The 9500 operator station is designed with a pedestal console and remote control handset to provide operator efficiency, safety and visibility of the entire operation. The 34 ft. 8 in. (10.57 m) long by 36 in. (914 mm) wide rear hydrostatic conveyor on the 9500 provides quick and accurate placement of material in the trimming or placing operation. The 9500 is the only front-mounted trimmer that allows for trimming to the end of each pass or within inches of obstacles. Its versatile design allows ease in changing from a trimmer to a placer. It also has easy access for changing trimming widths or attaching a trimmerhead or placing hopper.
