Thank You For Attending GOMACO Invitational #38!

GOMACO Invitational #38 brought together the concrete construction industry on September 17 and 18, 2019. We had a total of 228 participate in the two-person Putting Tournament on Tuesday, and 280 in the big four-person, 18-hole Scramble Tournament on Wednesday on golf courses in Ida Grove, Holstein, Mapleton, and Odebolt. Thank you to everyone for traveling to our small hometown of Ida Grove, Iowa, and joining us for two days of fun golfing events.

The GOMACO Invitational is our way of saying "thank you" for choosing our paving products, and to thank our business partners for their support through the years. Thank you again for coming, and we hope to see you at #39 in September 2020.

Every year, we build this special web site where you can relive the fun and excitement of the two-day event. We have included listings of the participants, sponsors, teams, winners, and feature many of the photos taken by the GOMACO Advertising Department. If you click on any photo, it will enlarge and allow you to flip through all of the photos on that page. Feel free to browse through the pages of this web site to re-experience #38!

Two Firsts At GOMACO Invitational #38

First Woman On The "Grand" Champion Team In The Scramble Tournament

GOMACO Invitational #38 was the first time we’ve had a woman on the “Grand” Champion team for the Scramble Tournament. This honor went to Brittany Diederich of Industrial Builders, who was a member of the top Holstein Scramble Tournament team, and they went on to win the “Grand” Champion Shoot-Out.

Father & Son Go Head-To-Head In $5,000 Putt

Invitational #38 was also the first time a father and son were drawn to go head to head in the 50-foot putt competition. Dan Driskell and his son, Blake Driskell, both of Gerdan Slipforming, Inc., were both drawn to participate in the event, along with Casey Thompson of K2 Construction, Ed Wessel of Hi-Way Paving, Inc., and Ron Dibler of Millstone Weber, LLC. Dan and Blake were the last two participants standing after a short putt-off, and Dan (dad) came out triumphant and had the privilege of attempting to sink the 50-foot putt. Despite a great effort, he was unable to sink the long putt.

Three Double Winners

There were three double winners at #38. Tim Potts of Graham Construction, Inc., and Blake Driskell of Gerdan Slipforming, Inc., were both on the winning Contractors’ Shoot-Out team, and also were on the champion team from the Odebolt Scramble Tournament. David Barthel of Faris Machinery was on the Putting Tournament Championship team, and also on the Ida Grove Scramble Tournament champion team.

Tiger Woods-Designed TaylorMade Irons

A set of Tiger Woods-designed TaylorMade irons were presented to the individual hitting a hole-in-one on a designated hole on the four courses during the second round of the Scramble Tournament. In the absence of a hole-in-one, the prize went to the person hitting closest-to-the-pin on this hole. Rick Blesi of Construction Equipment magazine was 18 inches from the hole on #4 in Holstein, and went home with the prize.
